ugh... it smells like a used diaper... filled with... indian food!

honeymoon's over...

the first checkpoint of the baseball season is a little over a week away which most likely means that sox fans have to stop sitting around all crack-faced about last year... nope, it's time to start caring again, sadly...

i wanted it to stay like last october forever... i don't mean waking up at 5:30 a.m. every day of the yankee series in a cold sweat - probably because i'm often still awake at 5:30 a.m. - i mean the euphoria that was oct. 27 and the week and a half leading up to it... but it's time to get serious... the sox are coasting... and the yankees (gulp) are playing like the yankees again...

yep, it's true... if you haven't been watching or paying attention, the bombers have won nine in a row now... granted, all those wins have been against shitty teams like oakland and seattle... but the sox have lost 3 of 4 to the a's and mariners and what was an 8 and a half game cushion over the $200 million team a couple weeks ago is down to 2 and a half...

now there isn't much surprise to this, ya know? every year, the sox start better, whoop the yanks in april and then go into cruise control while ny lurches ahead in the al east standings... the yankees were so bad in blowing it last fall and then in their first 30 games this year that it actually looked through the rose-colored glasses that this season would be different... but it's not... sox open up a series in the bronx on the greatest day of the year, the 27th, and it's pretty likely that by the end of the long weekend, ny will be in front in the standings...

the sox have been kinda fun this year so far - those 2 walk-offs in a row last week reminded me of the playoffs - but there isn't a lot of urgency... manny's on pace to hit 42 bombs and the 400th was cool, but he's lost at the dish sometimes - i've never seen anything like that from him anyway... the way he let that poseur yabu k him last night while they were rallying in the eighth was just plain bizarre... the new shortstop, who will be very good when its all said and done, is killing them at least twice a week both in the field and at the plate... trot's hurt again, and even though he's ripping it up now, why should anyone think he's not headed back to the dl for the 37th straight year?... and the closer has gone from being a slammed door to a human angioplasty...

listen to the radio, and the shut-ins have been awakened... they're all coming out their cocoons after a merciful early season hiatus to complain about renteria not bunting while down by one with a man on first, nobody out and with manny and papi coming up in the ninth on sunday (frickin idiot!) among other things... yes, they're losers, these basement dwellers... but the fact that they're awake and calling again by the thousands is a significant reason why last year is last year and this year is now...

another reason is the fact that the yankees are now hitting and sort of pitching at the same time - a bad combo... christ, even bernie, who is 73 years old and can't walk or lift his arm over his head, hit a game-winning granny last night off your favorite and mine, the immortal j.j. putz... some of what they're doing - tino on fire (which would be a better movie than that garbage with denzel that's on hbo everyday), solid bullpen work and a whole day without giambi being the lead story on sportscenter - won't last... but who out there thinks the yanks aren't gonna be there till the end? if you don't, please stay away from me the next time i bet on anything... and the way things look right now, it's not a lock that the wild card will come out of the east... sure, the orioles will fall apart cause of the pitching and aren't really a threat, but look at the twins and the white sox... one of those two very easily could finish better than the second placers in the east...

this is not a panic post... i'm not that worried, honest... i'm just not as blissfully blithe as i have been up to this point... watching last night really made me want to write this... bad team they should crush practically trying to give the game away and they still lose... long season, can't win em all - believe me i know... but for the first time, during that game, i felt slightly uncomfortable with what i was seeing... then they showed old man bernie's slam from seattle and it all came together...

ok so this is long - real long... hope you got through it (and notice how i didn't rip the yanks, i just talked about them, right chacha?)... i just didn't see any other way around the topic - why it's time to start caring when the sox lose/play like shit... agree or disagree? you decide... lates.

Jeremetrius-

Pearls of wisdom. 11-19. 21-19. Ten in a row is pretty amazing. Last time the Yanks won ten in a row was in 1998. We all know what happened that year. (114 wins) Before that it was 1968. This is all information you get when you are subject to Yankee's broadcast... Props to the 'chick' that calls Yanks games on the radio.. yeah its true....

The yanks.

Thats how I feel about them.

Giambi is gonna hit 30 HR this year, DH in AL games, and not play in NL games. At least until Tino realizes exactly who he is.

My theory on Tino-

Old guy- gonna retire- played with the Yanks- got cut cuz he's old and he sucked- everyone flushed their 'Tino' book down the toilet(no jihad please)- SURPRISE!- Tino still plays- Throw a pitch inside to him- homerun.

It may be cuz I'm a very bit buzzed, but I really think Giambi is gonna turn it around. He's got a hell of a reason to after the last three games. Talk about getting a monkey off yer back. He went 3/4 tonight, a dinger and 3 RBI. Nice line.

Tino is Tino. Blow the dust off the books and remember that the guy can't hit anything up in the zone. ABC's bitches. I get the impression that MLBer's are lazy. Or maybe I'm less lazy... can't say.

Star Wars. go see it soon. Its better when the crowd oohs and aahs.

And they clap when its done.
